Diane here. I apologize for my tardiness this month, it has been a really busy summer (praise God) and I haven’t been able to sit down and type out a newsletter until today. I won’t take too much of your time, it will be short and sweet.

This month, I am featuring the Plaza District. I am still new to OKC so I have been enjoying writing about these different districts every month. I learn something new about my new city each time, so thank you for that opportunity to share it with you.

The Plaza District is located between NW 16th between Classen & Penn Ave. It was named after the historic Plaza Theatre that was built in 1935. Once riddled with crime and disrepair, this neighborhood has blossomed over the years and is now thriving and economically viable. Many of the historic buildings have been renovated and are now being creatively used. This hip district is now home to locally-owned shops, neighborhood bars, art galleries and hairstylists, tattoo artists, and quirky restaurants.

In celebration of the rejuvenated District, the Plaza District Association holds an annual Plaza District Festival each fall. This year’s festival will be on Saturday, September 28th (21st annual festival). They will have tons of artists, live music, children’s activities, retailers, and good food. You don’t want to miss this one, folks. Come join me and we will check out OK’s creativity together.

‘Til next time
